Why focus on preserving coastal habitats and blue carbon environments?
Mangroves, salt marshes, and coral reefs are among the most biologically diverse and productive ecosystems on Earth. They provide critical breeding and feeding grounds for marine life, acting as natural buffers against coastal erosion and storm surges, and playing a pivotal role in regulating the global climate. Research shows that mangroves and salt marshes remove and sequester carbon from the atmosphere at a rate 10 times greater than tropical forests. By protecting, scaling, and restoring these systems, we reduce the effects of climate change and optimize the social, environmental, and economic benefits the systems provide.
